Why SDS Is Mandatory in Spain (EU REACH/CLP Framework)
The legal requirement for the SDS in Spain is derived directly from EU law, which is applied nationally and enforced by regional (Autonomous Communities) and central authorities, including the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Competent Authority for environmental issues).
REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006: Mandates the provision of an SDS for all hazardous substances and mixtures (Article 31).
CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008: Governs classification, labelling, and packaging (GHS implementation in the EU). The SDS must match the CLP classification exactly.
Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878: This updates Annex II of REACH and sets the latest mandatory 16-section format and content requirements for all EU SDSs.

Format: The mandatory 16-section SDS format defined by REACH Annex II, as updated by Regulation (EU) 2020/878.
Language Specific: The SDS must be supplied entirely in Spanish (Español), the official language of Spain, as required by REACH Article 31(5).
Content: For all hazardous mixtures, it must include the Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) code in Section 1.1, linked to a successful Poison Centre Notification (PCN).
